We are continuing this week with our series on Divine Audacity, the book by Reverend
Linda-Martella-Whitsett. In her book, Rev. Linda explores the practical
application of The Twelve Powers of Man which were discerned and advanced by Unity
cofounder Charles Fillmore. In my Sunday lesson series, I am approaching the
book and The Twelve Powers from the perspective of how we can utilize these
powers in demonstrating our hearts’ desires.
I want to be clear that my belief is that each of our heart’s
desire is to know ourselves as expressions of the Divine and to experience life
as a reflection of our divine nature. When we awaken to our twelve powers, we
begin to claim our divine nature. When we begin to apply them in our lives, we
begin to live from our divine nature and create a life that is in alignment
with Allness.
When our earthly material desires are born from the awareness
of this primary desire, our powers are in service to creating that which mirrors
our divine nature and the Divine Plan for all. That encompassing Divine Plan is
to live in the Kingdom of God, where there is the demonstration of peace, love
and joy for all. Therefore, it is essential that we connect with our divine
nature, the divine light that we are, before we begin to invoke any of our
powers - including our power of Imagination which Trish spoke about last week.
You may listen to her talk here.
We use our power of Imagination to envision ways that we can
live into the possibility and from the potential of our divine nature. Using
our powers for anything less is the misuse of power. And, we need look no
further than our social, political and religious institutions to witness the
effects of the misuse of power.
In the application of our spiritual powers, in service to manifestation
of our desires, it is essential and primary just as it was in the story of
creation given in Genesis to first call forth Light (“Let there be light,” ¹). We
are to call forth into our minds and hearts illumination, the illumination of
the Spirit and Truth, before setting out on a course of manifestation. A course
which requires our focus, imagination, and the utilization of our powers.
We are powerful creative beings. We are here to bring forth
the kingdom of God into manifestation, not the kingdom of man. The kingdom of
God is a spiritual kingdom that can be accessed with the heart and then brought
into manifestation using the powers of spirit and, yes the power of the mind,
but it must be a mind that is centered in the knowing of the heart. It must be
a mind that is the servant of the heart. The powers must be in the service of
the heart and directed by the powers of the mind.
This is not to say that the intellect of the mind is not
valuable. Both are indeed valuable. The mind is the powerful ally in the
creative process. The ego is also valuable in the extent that it collaborates
with spirit. The spiritual ego is the aspect of you that says “I Am.” I Am the
Christ. I am in service to the highest good of all creation.
The adverse ego is a conglomeration of the myths, messages
and beliefs about who you are. When in reality, these are actually about who
you are not. The adverse ego would have you believe that you are bound to the
limitations of the material realm. The following is from The Revealing Word and explains the distinction.
ego, adverse--When the ego
attaches itself to sense consciousness,
it builds the antichrist man, who has no basis in reality. This
is known as the adverse ego. It is the adverse ego that causes all the trouble in the world. Its selfishness and greed make men grovel in the mire of materiality, when they might soar in
the heavens of spirituality.
ego, spiritual--The true self; an individualized center of God consciousness; I AM; conscious identity.
You are not in bondage to the realm of the physical. You are
in the physical world for the sole purpose of bringing into manifestation the
kingdom of God upon the earth. That can seem a daunting task. You are not
responsible for the entirety of creation. All is at choice in every moment. You
are only responsible for bringing that awareness into your heart and mind and aligning with the energy of the Christ, the
energy of Spirit and Truth, and allowing it to be your only focus and your only
guide in the world. You are only responsible for your world - which is your
thoughts, feelings, and actions. As you do this, you continue to become the
example for others to emulate and follow, just as the master Jesus and many
other avatars have done.
You can use your powers of Zeal and Power to serve adverse ego
and desires if you choose. Or, you can use your powers to align your mind and
heart with Spirit and Truth while bringing your thinking and feeling natures
into attunement with it. You have domination over your thoughts and thus over
your feelings.
Your power of Zeal is your power to wholeheartedly and with
great devotion bring forth the highest and best good for all humanity. In doing
so, you bring forth the highest and best for yourself. You serve the world in your
service to yourself, and you serve yourself in your service to the world. They
are interconnected and one.
Those who worship must worship in Spirit and in Truth. ²
Spirit is just as important as Truth, but many miss that. Spirit is the way you
worship in the heart, truth is the way you worship in the mind. Spirit is the
power of Love. Truth is the power of Wisdom. They are the eternal marriage of
heart and head, love and light, spirit and truth.
They are embodied in the creation story of the Adam and Eve.
They were the first creations of God. They are the essence of life itself that
emanated from the Godhead and Godheart. We need to begin understanding God, not
just as the One Mind, but also as the One Heart. And allow your powers to serve
both, the divine ideas of mind and the divine love of the heart.
It is important that we do not allow our powers to be taken
over by the desires of the adverse ego. Again, the greatest desire of our hearts
is to know God and to know ourselves as expressions of God. It is to know yourself
as God knows you. That is your Soul’s desire. And in truth, it is your sole
desire.
The things we desire from the heart are, in truth, ways that
we can manifest or demonstrate those aspects of God that we long for. That is
what Trish was talking about last week. We use the power of Imagination to
envision all that we can imagine God to be, and then imagine all the ways that
the divine idea of who and what we are can manifest to serve the world.
Then with our power of Zeal use our gifts and talents to
bring that into demonstration in the world. And use our power of Power to stay
focused on it. Use the power of Power like a laser beam to cut through the
illusion and the adverse ego-dominated mind, and focus completely on the ideas
of spirit and truth, the ideas of the divine mind and the divine heart of God. In
doing so, we take one more step toward manifesting the kingdom of God upon the
earth.
In addition to the meditations that Rev. Linda has provided
at the end of each chapter in her book, I invite and encourage us to use the
following as well.
I
focus my attention at the base of my skull and top of my spine. I envision
there a bright orange light. I am now awake to my Power of Zeal. Using my power
of Zeal I feel the enthusiasm, audacity and devotion to accomplish all that is
to be done by me in bringing forth the kingdom of God upon the earth in service
to all creation. I am the light of Zeal.
I direct my awareness to the area of my throat at the base of my tongue.
I see there a bright purple light shining brightly. In this moment, I claim my
power of Power and embrace that aspect of my divine nature. Claiming Power, I
concentrate on the desires of my heart. I use my spiritual authority to speak
from a place of centered heart awareness. I claim mastery over my thinking and
feeling natures. I am the light of Power.
Join us on Sunday as we explore together how we can use our
Powers of Zeal and Power to create and manifest our lives in harmony with the
life of God that is expressing as us and in service to the highest good for all
creation.

² John 4:24
"You are in the physical world for the sole purpose of bringing into manifestation the kingdom of God upon the earth."
ReplyDeleteI struggle with this idea. I cannot imagine that there is a "sole" purpose for my being in the physical world. There may be a part of my being that is trying to "bring into manifestation the kingdom of God upon the earth." But sole purpose? It does not resonate with me. I have many purposes for being in the physical. There are many choices I can make. I think perhaps I am in this physical world to choose what I want to manifest and that all choices are with the consent of God. God may approve mightily or hardly with my choices. I believe that God wants me to choose, to make my own choice, and then consents to those choices.
That said, I also acknowledge that everything I believe may be wrong. I wish God would just give us a playbook at birth and then allow us to choose to play by that book or not. Oh well...looking forward to what Rev. David has to say!
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.
